Mom really
is not on Facebook. She does have a page and can see what is posted, but she is
not sending the replies. Either myself or one of the three women staying there
helping Mom and Dad are helping Mom with the replies. I set her up a page and
got their computer working again so they could keep up with everyone and see
everyones pictures. Just so you won't wonder how she got so good at getting
around on the computer. She still would rather see visitors or talk on the
phone. Now don't think she doesn't want anyone to send her anything, just
wanted you to know someone else is typing her replies.

Dad is home.
He is showing me how to eat graham crackers. He had a slight blackout tonight.
The doctor said it is one of the stages of Parkinson disease. I will take him
back to the neurologist next week. Thanks for all of your prayers. Mom and Dad
are both happy to be home. So am I.

I just
talked to Mom. She said they had a very good day. Dad, Sophie and Pamela went
to the Dollar Tree. They have been going to Subway and just getting out of the
house a couple of times last week.
Dad read the writing on Anne's shirt tonight,
out loud, when she came in. Mom said Dad is picking up things and reading them.
I take Dad to his neurologist tomorrow. I plan to run by the VA clinic and will
talk to them about getting new glasses.
It's one day at a time. One good day is worth
a bad month.

Dad had a good report from his Neurology
visit. He does not have to make any changes in his medicine. We think Dad was
just plum wore out Friday night and decided to fall asleep at the dinner table.
He has been fighting a cold lately and he fell asleep there before he got to
bed.

Mom and Dad
will be celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary April 7th.
I do not have anything set up yet. If it is
pretty that day, we might just have a drop in at their house. It is the day
before Easter. I know they would like to see everyone if you can visit.
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!!

I can't remember who took the picture. Grandpa
was working. The top row is Mom's mother and she is holding Mom's baby sister.
Grandpa Thomas is standing to her left. The lady to the left of Dad is Aunt
Alice (the diary!) and Uncle Matt (Mom'sUncle) is to her left. Grandma White is
standing next to Mom. Aunt Betty (Mom's Sister in Law) is in front.

We are going to have a drop in at Mom and Dads on April 7th for their
anniversary. It will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm. Now that doesn't mean that
you have to be there in between that time. They should be there anytime. If you
cannot make it I would like for you to send a simple card. We plan to put
together an album of all the cards. Please pass the word to everyone. Thanks,
Dennis

Mom and Aunt
Betty would ride the streetcar from their apartment to look for jobs. They
would ride it then get off and just go from place to place looking for work.
Now this was in 1952 and Mom was 19 when they
got married. I am not sure how old Aunt Betty was but they were two young women
walking all over St. Louis looking for work. They did not always find nice
friendly people on their travels.
One day they had been out all day long and was
ready to go back home but they did not have the 15 cents they needed to ride
the trolley back home so they decided to walk the tracks back home. 1952, St.
Louis, young women......
They started out OK, having fun and laughing
until the houses started getting less and less and then they started going
through some deserted areas. They began to get scared. It wasn't long until
they heard the streetcar coming down the track. They wanted to catch a ride but
they did not have the money and the streetcar only stopped at stops.
The conductor saw them walking and stopped the
car. He told them to get on and never, never walk alone home again. They never
did.

I called Mom
tonight and she was telling me a few stories about when they first went to St
Louis right after they were married in 1952.
They lived off Kingshighway across from Sears.
There was a Woolworth close by and a gas station on the corner that Uncle Cliff
worked.
Mom said that they only had two forks, spoons
and knives. So when Uncle Cliff and Aunt Betty would come eat, they would have
to bring their own silver wear.
Mom and Aunt Betty both bought crepe dresses
at the Woolworth close by their apartment. One day they were both wearing their
dresses and was walking from Sears to home. They had to cross Kingshighway to
get home.
The problem was it started to rain. The crepe
dresses were not made of paper but it was really thin material that had
crinkles all in it and could only be cleaned at a dry cleaner. While walking in
the rain the dresses started to shrink. Mom and Aunt Betty were pulling on the
hems of their dresses trying to keep them from shrinking too much.
Aunt Betty was pregnant with Larry at the
time. Mom said her dress was really drawing up fast. They had to walk right in
front of the gas station on the corner and all the guys were looking at them in
their wet dresses. I guess Uncle Cliff was not there at the time.
When they got home their dresses had drawn up
almost to their butts. They had to get rid of the dresses because they did not
fit anymore.

Last night I told Sheila's mom and dad these
stories, they both knew where Sears, Woolworth and the gas station were. They
got married in 1951 and they bought their first television at that Sears.
~~~~~
One day some soldiers came in and there was a
black guy with them. He ordered a burger and Coke. Mom hated to then but they
could not serve blacks in the restaurants. His buddies could not believe it so
the entire group left. Mom has always regretted doing that. She knew she would
get fired if she broke the law. She often wondered if he made it home. She says
she can still see the look on his face.
Here's one -
Mom lived with Grandpa & Grandma and slept on a cot in their bedroom. One
night she woke up to someone’s hand sliding across her stomach. She grabbed
that hand and started slamming it against the block wall next to her. After
wrestling with it, her other arm started hurting by being slammed against a
block wall... ;o)
THANKSGIVING 25 November |
Sheila and I
had the good fortune to be with all of our parents and kids this Thanksgiving.
Mom and Dad came and spent the day with Sheila's mom and dad, Gaylon and Nancy
and our kids. We ate lots of food and drank a lot of tea and coffee, looked at
pictures and told tons of stories.
Everyone had a good time. Dad sat at the table
and ate until he almost popped!
