The Move Back to Arkansas

In January of 1960, Loran and I decided we would move back to Arkansas.  Danny was 4 in July and we were thinking of him.  Soon he would be old enough to start to school.  We had wanted a larger family, but so far we had only been blessed with our Danny.

On Loran’s birthday, January 6, I went to the Doctor and he told us that he thought we were expecting again.  We were so excited and now we were sure we needed to come back to Arkansas.  So the last of February 1960, we headed south.  We loaded up our 1956 Pontiac and a two-wheel trailer and we headed home.  Our possessions were one portable black and white television, one baby bed, one automatic washing machine, our dishes and cooking utensils, clothing and bedding.

The first day of March we bought our first furniture and moved in our first house.  We bought a new kitchen stove and a used dinette set, buffet, and china cabinet.  We also bought a used couch and chair but we bough new end tables and coffee table and three new rugs.  Finally we bought a used bedroom suit with box springs and mattress and a wood burning heating stove.  From the first day of March till the 15th day of April, we used five rank of wood and still though we were going to freeze to death.

Once here, I went to see the doctor again, and Doctor Bradsher tells us for sure that we are going to have a new baby.  He called it a premium baby because we had waited so long.  Loran went into business in an Esso gas station with Herb Shelby, but business wasn’t very good.  However on September 13, 1960, we had our new premium baby, Dennis Dewayne.  With our first, we had picked out the names of David Loran or Donna Kay.  With the second, we had picked out Danny Edward or Donna Kay.  But with the third we had chosen the names of Dennis Dewayne or Susan Lynn.
